Ready for the future

During the rebranding of Lehrmittelverlag Zürich (LMVZ), we created an imaginative and systematic brand identity. The newly developed umbrella branding strategy not only supports the brand's image transformation, but also ensures wider visibility.The new LMVZ brand look is dynamic, friendly and forward-looking, and stimulates the potential for learning.

High Quality Educational Products

Lehrmittelverlag Zürich (LMVZ) was founded in 1851 in the canton of Zurich. As a result, it was possible to produce teaching materials for primary and secondary schools in the canton in a uniform and cost-effective manner. Today, LMVZ is one of the leading publishers of educational media in German-speaking Switzerland. The company employs 38 people, sells around 2,700 products and has received numerous international awards for its high quality and innovative educational products.

In the past, LMVZ has been awarded fixed contracts from Zurich, so the need for a branding strategy was not realized. However, the market environment has become more competitive than ever. The strategic repositioning of the publisher-operator model to a public limited company meant that LMVZ had to become more proactive and act closer to the needs of its customers. To do this, the publisher needed a strong brand and its own brand strategy.

Passion for learning

LMVZ realized that the key to its success was a differentiated brand positioning, a strong brand image, and a clear and understandable product architecture. We proposed an umbrella branding strategy to facilitate LMVZ's image change and increase its brand visibility. As a result, we not only developed a dynamic, friendly and forward-looking brand, but also stimulated interest in learning and set industry standards. The new corporate identity exudes confidence and the current LMVZ brand logo is now more prominent and recognizable in product and brand communications.

Dynamic Communication

The modular design of the new LMVZ logo and its personalized design elements are no longer limited to print, but also communicate well in dynamic environments. The horizontal line of the logo text reminds people of a bookshelf or the measuring mark of a ruler, thus establishing a link with the core business of textbooks; the measuring unit metaphorically symbolizes the physical and mental growth of the learner.

Natural and dynamic

Dynamic lines, abstract or figurative, represent an individual's unique path in learning, development and life, and guide the learner into the future. The overall brand experience is further enhanced by the natural, playful illustrations of French artist Marie Assémet. The everyday world of children and teenagers is poetically reflected, reminiscent of a teacher's cursive handwriting on a blackboard, and the typography is based on the printed fonts that children learn at the start of elementary school.
